Hutto Hippo Eggs Recipe
Our Hippo Eggs come ready-made and are ready to cook. They prepare in a flash, leaving you time to relax with guests or focus on other accompanying dishes.
Pre-Made with Premium Ingredients
- Westphalia Market’s award-winning Pork Pan Sausage
- Irresistable Smoked/Cured Bacon
- Decadent Cream Cheese
- Flavorful Jalapeños (seedless as possible)
- Savory and Aromatic Chili Powder
Instructions
- If cooking in the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Cook Hippo Eggs covered at 350°F for 30 minutes.
If cooking on a grill or BBQ pit: Cook covered with indirect heat. Grills and BBQ pits vary in temperature, so use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the Hippo Egg. An internal temperature of 160°F or higher is an indication that the meat is done. - Next, uncover the Hippo Eggs and continue cooking until bacon is completely cooked and browned.
If cooking in the oven: This should take approximately 15 minutes.
If cooking on a grill or BBQ pit: The time will vary, so frequently visually check the browning of the bacon. - For both methods, please allow the meat to rest before cutting (5 – 10 minutes). After resting, cut across the Hippo Egg so the entire cross section is visible (bacon, sausage, cream cheese and jalapeño).
- Serve your Hippo Eggs by themselves or on a tortilla with salsa (we recommend any of the fantastic Ancira Salsas you can find in-store at Westphalia Market).
